A railroad town with a long building history
Wikipedia says East Point began in 1870 as a railroad terminus with 16 families, received its first charter in 1887, and takes its name from the eastern terminus of the Atlanta & West Point Railroad. Main Street was completed by 1892, early factories such as the White Hickory Manufacturing Company made it an industrial town, and an 1890 subdivision along East Point Avenue opened land for homes. Much of what was built in those decades, and in the decades after, is still standing.
